scripps college mock trial
Mock Trial allows undergraduates to engage in trial simulations and competitions with teams from other institutions, students develop strong critical thinking and analytic skills, improve upon their written and communication skills, and their ability to work in a team setting.
Every year, college mock trial teams all over the country are given a case
packet by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) alternating between civil and criminal cases. This packet contains everything the teams need to compete in tournaments that season. Using only this information, teams create a strategy, assign roles, and practice for competition. Each team consists of 6-10 members who act as either attorneys or witnesses, and argue their case against another collegiate team in front of real judges, attorneys, and law students. Mock trial combines speech, debate, theater, and improvisational acting all together.
Founded in the fall of 2008, Scripps College Mock Trial has found success since the beginning. We have received bids to Open Rounds of Nationals during 3 of the last 6 seasons, two of those bids occurring in the '12-13 season and the '13-'14 season. Scripps Mock Trial is a student run program that is full of brilliant, hardworking Scripps students who make each of our successes possible.
The mock trial season begins in the early fall, and we compete at tournaments at other universities until the beginning of March. If you're interested in our schedule, or past results check out the tournament section. Scripps Mock Trial historically fields two teams a season, and is a group of about 20 students who act as either attorneys, witnesses or in some cases both. Our members have a variety of different academic and personal interests. Regardless of our different interests, the team is an incredibly close knit group. For more information about who we are, check out the team bios page of this website.
